Revised COVID guidance for attending a court or tribunal

bySimon Berney-Edwards

Following the Prime Minister's announcement of a period of further COVID-19 restrictions as the Government moves to its Plan B, HM Courts and Tribunals Service have revised their COVID guidance for attending a court or tribunal.

They have stressed that courts and tribunals are an essential public service and will remain open, ensuring access to justice, especially for some of the most vulnerable in society. They added that they will continue to follow public health guidance to keep all colleagues and court users safe.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson told the Law Gazette that it will remain a matter for individual judges to decide whether to use the cloud video platform or other means of arranging a remote or hybrid hearing, saying a ‘top-down missive’ was unlikely.
