For the most experienced Expert Witnesses

Have you been an Expert Witness for over 10 years? You could be eligible for Fellowship of the EWI – the highest recognition in our profession. Becoming a Fellow means you’ve earned a strong reputation in your field, can demonstrate integrity and legal expertise, and are committed to helping the EWI grow.

 

You can apply for Fellowship if you:

  • Have been a Full or Certified member of EWI for at least 1 year
  • Have at least 10 years’ experience practising as an Expert Witness
  • Can demonstrate:
    • Your standing within your profession and discipline
    • Excellence in practice as an Expert Witness
    • A commitment to Continuing Professional Development, both as an expert and as an Expert Witness
    • A commitment to developing and improving the practices of others
    • A commitment to and understanding of EWI’s Mission and Strategic Objectives

  • Use the post nominals FEWI or FEWI (Cert) if you are currently certified

Fellowship fees

Annual Fee 2024/2025: £340 / £320 when you pay by Direct Debit.

Annual Fee 2025/2026: £350 / £330 when you pay by Direct Debit.

Our subscription year runs 1st November - 31st October. Annual fees will be calculated pro-rata.

If you work for one of our Corporate Members you will benefit from a 15% Discount on the standard price. If you work for one of our Corporate Partners you will benefit from a 20% Discount on the standard price. 

 

How to apply

Applications for membership are vetted by the EWI Membership Committee.

To apply, complete the online application form and upload the following:

  • Your Current CV
  • Proof of membership of appropriate regulatory body (if applicable) - certificate, directory screenshot, or confirmation letter. Psychologists must be HCPC registered.
  • Contact details for three instructing parties for reference checks.
  • An anonymised Expert Witness report from a closed case (written within the last 3 years) that complies with relevant legislation. Include appendices. All Expert Reports are assessed by our Membership Committee who will assess your report against our Assessment Criteria. Anonymisation guidelines:
    • Replace names with standard identifiers (e.g. Claimant A, Defendant B)
    • Change dates to XX/XX/XX but keep the report’s signing date
    • Do not use fake names or dates
  • A list of any judgments where you've been named in hearings, or state the number of anonymous hearings (e.g. Arbitration) where you were named. Guidance for searching judgments is available in the Knowledge Hub.
  • A 250-word statement explaining why your Expert Witness experience is significant.
  • A list of CPD activities you've completed in the last three years to enhance your Expert Witness practice. You may submit a screenshot of your CPD log from My EWI.
  • A 250-word statement on how your CPD has developed your skills, knowledge, and practice.
  • A 250-word statement about your experience mentoring or training others, including how you can support and train inexperienced experts.
  • A 250-word statement on how you can contribute to the EWI as a Fellow, considering our Mission and Strategic Objectives.
