Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice 2025 (Version 2)

bySean Mosby

Version 2 of the Forensic Science Regulator ('FSR') Code of Practice has completed its passage through both Houses of Parliament. The FSR conducted a consultation on Version 2 of the Code last year and published a consultation response report in March 2025. Version 2 of the Code will come into force on 2 October 2025 when it will replace Version 1. UKAS has published a technical bulletin outlining the process of transition from Version 1 to Version 2 of the Code.

Members who are subject to the Code, including specialists from outside the forensic science profession who are commissioned to give expert evidence which is subject to the Code, should ensure they fully understand the changes and apply version 2 of the Code from 2 October 2025.
