Just before his birth he suffered a severe brain injury as a result of placental abruption'. He developed a number of disabilities including cerebral palsy, microcephaly, Type I diabetes, epilepsy, severe learning difficulties, speech difficulties, was blind and was fed by a tube. He required 24-hour care, he needed a wheelchair and the family moved into an adapted ground floor flat. He had no independent mobility and spent life between his bed and a chair.
